Ep. 69 – The Way To Succeed and The Way To Suck Eggs

Now that Sickie McGee (aka Brendan) has gotten better, we decided to record another one of these. We talked about old bands releasing new music this year, we talked about Sicario and we couldn’t help but putting down The Revenant again. God. What a fucking awful movie.

The episode started with Autolux’s “Future Perfect” and ends with a string quartet version of Björk’s “Hyperballad.”

Ep. 68 – Happy 2016?

Matthew HarrisonHappy new year! Hopefully? It’s our first episode in a few weeks, the first in the new year and we feature a guest! Our friend Matthew Harrison dropped by to inject some flavor in our movie talk — talk that we engaged in to avoid having to talk about our depressing as hell lives. Thank heavens for friends!

The episode opened with The Hearse’s “Dead City” off their self-titled debut album you can pick up on Bandcamp. The episode closes with Alter der Ruine’s “Soft Hours” which you can also get on Bandcamp.

– Brendan and I argue about David Bowie’s output over the last two decades.
– We agree on The Revenant — HATED IT!
– Brendan tries to convince me to watch the new Star Wars by making a comparison to Depeche Mode and Sisters of Mercy.
– We then have a scintillating conversation about streaming services and Hulu
Hateful Eight and Quentin Tarantino talk that Matthew Harrison interrupts.
– Matthew talks about living in Reno, and we devolve into a freeform conversation that eventually ends. Eventually.

Ep. 67 – Mediocre Art

It’s been several weeks since our last podcast, and upon hearing this episode I have to warn you all: I call a lot of people cunts. We didn’t really talk about our absence at all, but we did have plenty to talk about.

– Right off the bat I talk shit about Grimes and Adele and how fucking dull their music is. Then we talk shit about Eddie Redmayne, St. Vincent and most of David Byrne’s work.
– We give a lot of praise to Mad Max Fury Road and Creed.
– Brendan is offended that I am not a huge TV Buffy fan.
– We talk about this “Golden State of Television” and my ambivalence towards it.
– I talk about my goal of becoming the Supreme Leader of America.
– I rail against Caitlyn Jenner and what a stupid cunt she is.
– Sofia Coppola love segues to Matthew Barney hate.
– Zack Greinke going to the Diamondbacks, and Yasiel Puig talk.

The podcast opens with Peaches’ “Dick in the Air” and ends with Haujobb’s “Failure”.

Ep. 66 – No Attention Span Theater

This episode is probably us at our worst with respect to attention span. We start talking about one thing and quickly get derailed into something else. It’s actually pretty interesting to listen to us trying to figure out what the hell we are talking about and how it all started. We talk:

– Al Jourgensen to Aimee Mann to Paul Thomas Anderson and the monstrosity that was Magnolia to Boogie Nights to 70s porn.
– Guns N Roses reunion rumors to grunge killing hair metal to Smashing Pumpkins to Bush.
– Brendan educates me about playing Fallout 4. I still don’t get it so we start talking about Infinite Jest, musing why some folks are very against abortion, to whether heteros are now forbidden from donating blood after the Charlie Sheen HIV revelation, to GG Allin to even more Infinite Jest.

The episode starts with Ministry’s “Reload” and ends with Coil’s “Backwards.”

Ep. 65 – C’est un horreur

This podcast is late, I know. We talked a lot about the tragedy in Paris, and I guess part of me didn’t want to re-live that. I thought we managed to not to ape what was being said on social media, but I did tell a great U2 joke. So there was that. We also talked about Wes Anderson movies and other things I had recently watched.

I probably should have edited this down since this goes on for about 75 minutes, but I’m already late in putting this together. So voila! The podcast opens with Bauhaus’s “In the Flat Fields” and ends with Nocando’s “Anne Rice”.

Ep. 64 – Republicans, Grantland and Shit

This is an interesting podcast. We had a couple of interruptions and lot of nonsense that had to be excised from this recording. And thanks to the extra hour with the time change, I had more than enough time to do it. In this episode we talk about:

The Running Man and industrial music samples.
– The Republican debates and why Jimmy doesn’t get why people watch it. Somehow we start talking about porn, naturally. Then there is a technical difficulty of sorts.
– Brendan had to expel some things from his system. Then we did a eulogy for Grantland.

The podcast starts with Noise Box’s “I Hate You” and ends with My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult’s “A Daisy Chain 4 Satan.”

Ep. 63 – Stormy Weather

Weather is truly terrifying. While we don’t talk about it the entire hour, I think you can hear it in our voices throughout the episode that it’s not too far from our minds. We talk about:

– We talk stormy weather, specifically Hurricane Patricia. Brendan somehow gets butthurt when he is pointed out that he was spouting misinformation. Jimmy is terrified about everything.
– Don Mattingly leaving the Dodgers
– Brendan is anxious about seeing the five-hour directors cut of Wim Wender’s Until the End of the World.
– Brendan could move to Colorado. Jimmy could move to Louisiana or Montana. Then Jimmy tells his pants pissing story.

The Pixies “Stormy Weather” opens the episode while Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds “(I’ll Love You) Until the End of the World” closes it out.

Ep. 62 – Sad Sports

It’s been a bit, but we’re back! We’re alive (relatively) and fighting the impending depression that are our lives with being preoccupied about stupid shit. We don’t know how successful we are, but here is the product for you to consume and prod and poke at.

In this episode we talk about:

– Brendan’s vacation to the Murder, She Wrote house.
– What the hell Jimmy does to support himself and how we cannot deal with real world jobs anymore.
– Diaries and Jimmy’s recent obsession with them.
– Chase Utley and the Dodgers series against the Mets.
– The crazy seventh inning of the Rangers-Jays Game 5.
– Lamar Odom, drugs and how dead San Francisco is.

The episode opens with Placebo’s “The Bitter End” and ends with Rank Pulla’s “J’adore FF”.

Ep. 61 – The Pope and Other Shit

If you hear something different in Brendan’s voice, what you are hearing is the weariness of age. It was his birthday weekend, and that inevitable march towards death is taking its toll. Poor Brendan. In this episode we talk about:

– Pope talk! And Jimmy lists some of the shittier popes to have held that office. Includes incest, rape, murder, castration and more!
– Brendan HATES Hugh Jackman.
– People who get mad at me for making snide jokes about using drugs while giving birth.

The episode begins with Slayer’s “Angel of Death” and ends with X-mal Deutschland’s “Incubus Succubus.”

Ep. 60 – We Solve Everything!

We took the week off. I went and had a “wild” weekend while Brendan played video games nonstop in his darkened apartment. In this episode we talk about:

– Burning Man. Maybe Brendan will ship my ass over to Burning Man next year to either to document it or to kill me.
– My grandmother is going to kill me and I bitch and bitch and bitch. Brendan is not sympathetic.
– I tried to play a video game. Poorly.
– 9/11 remembrances!!! How fun!
– We talk MTV original programming and being gay in high school.
– We then doubled back to 9/11 and the crazy conspiracy theories out there!

The episode opens with The Unicorns’ “William, Clap Your Hands” and ends with The Pixies’ “Bone Machine”.
